Privacy Policy for ToolPhone
Last Updated: January 13, 2026
Introduction
ToolPhone ("we", "our", or "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our Android application.
Our Philosophy: We believe your data is yours. ToolPhone is designed to help you build a healthier relationship with your phone through mindful usage, not to collect or monetize your personal information.
Information We Collect
1. App Usage Data (Stored Locally)
To provide core blocking functionality, we collect and store the following information locally on your device:
- Blocked Apps List: Package names and app names you choose to block
- Usage Statistics: Timestamps and frequency of when you attempt to open blocked apps
- Reflections & Intentions: Text you enter when unlocking blocked apps or reflecting on your usage
- Daily Journal: Automatically generated summaries of your daily phone usage patterns
- Success Rate: Statistics showing how often you choose to "Go Home" vs. unlock apps
- Screen Time Data: Daily and weekly aggregated screen time metrics
Important: This data is stored only on your device using Android SharedPreferences and is never uploaded to external servers.
2. Analytics & Crash Data (Firebase)
We use Google Firebase to improve app stability and understand how users interact with the app:
Firebase Crashlytics:
- Crash reports and stack traces when the app unexpectedly closes
- Device model, Android version, and app version
- Anonymized crash identifiers
Firebase Analytics:
- Anonymous usage statistics (e.g., screens viewed, features used)
- App open/close events
- General interaction patterns (no personally identifiable information)
This data is processed by Google according to Google's Privacy Policy.
3. Device Permissions
The app requires the following permissions:
- Usage Stats Access (PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS): Required to detect when you open blocked apps. This permission allows us to see which apps are in the foreground but does not give us access to app content or communications.
- Display Over Other Apps (SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW): Required to show the blocking/reflection screen when you open a blocked app.
- Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS): Used to show the monitoring service notification and optional reminders.
- Query All Packages: Required to display a list of installed apps for you to select which to block.
